Sciatica. Ugh! I’ve had it before, and I know how debilitating it can be. I despise it, yet love it all at the same time. Why? I know the discomfort it brings, and my heart breaks for those who have it. However, I love it because I use effective therapies that have helped my sciatica clients feel better, and I’m thrilled to be able to help the many more who struggle with this daily! At Central Florida Therapeutic Massage, several different methods may be used to help reduce pain caused by sciatica, pseudo sciatica, or piriformis syndrome (all of which may cause low back pain, hip/buttock pain, and pain down the leg), depending on its cause, whether it is nerve compression, muscular entrapment of the sciatic nerve, or trigger point referral.
This is not your typical spa massage. It’s strategic: Utilize proper assessments to target specific areas of soft tissue that can be responsible for sciatic pain. Then create a treatment tailored to your body’s unique need to get your tissue healthier and your pain reduced. The goal is to get people feeling better as fast as possible.
Examples of therapies may include: Posture/Gait/Range-of-Motion Assessments, MPS Therapy, Structural Integration, Trigger Point Therapy, Exercise/Resistance/Stretching Techniques, Deep Heat and/or Ice Massage. These are soft tissue therapies (muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia), and do not involve skeletal manipulations or adjustments. This is just a brief summary and does not fully entail all therapies and their benefits, nor is it intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. You do NOT need a referral or prescription from your doctor to get a massage; however, you should always see a doctor for severe pain before treatment. As always, I’m happy to talk with your physician regarding any contraindication you may have to make sure medical massage is right for you.
